Beran paints 28mm Ion Age
Over on the Alternative Armies Forum we were delighted to see a French wargamer and figure painter make his take on Planetary Militia, Grima Combat Robots and Weapon Platforms in the 28mm Ion Age range. See his blog (in French) for all the pictures and to assist on our news site we have put all the text in English to marry them up. Take it away Beran!
Planetary Militia and Grima robot from Alternative Armies.
Sometimes we have favorite figurines. Well, I like the Alternative Armies figures for the Ion Age universe. The figurines exist on a scale of 15mm and 28mm. Many 28mm figurines date from the 90s. But in recent years, new ones have been produced, including Planetary Militia figurines and Grima robots. There are three sort of troops for humans: The Retained Knights. Knights in energy armour who follow the gallant code. Muster. Well trained soldiers. The planetary militia. Troops less well trained but more numerous and accompanied by robots.
As with the entire range, there are no duplicates. Not even reuse of legs and bodies where we only change the arms and head. If you don't like conversions, well, that's not it
Apart from the support weapons which are made of resins, the figurines are made of good, heavy metal. There isn't too much trimming to do. Although I should have focused better on this task. I hope to see larger resin figurines arrive soon. A nice motorcycle is already available. If you don't want to spend hours editing, the majority of figures are in one piece. Sometimes you have to stick an arm or two together. It's relaxing.
For the base, I preferred to use thinner metal washers than the bases provided. For the paint, I missed the spray undercoat. I based the figures in black, then bulged from above in white. Except the wind has picked up. A powdery layer is deposited on the figurines. I had to rub them to remove as much as possible. For painting, I started with Contrast for the base coats. It works well on very square robots.
Here are some photos: Here is a platoon of Grima robots led by a robot control team. Here is a platoon of Grima robots led by a robot control team. Heavy weapons, mounted on tracks. There is also an anti-gravity version. But I reserve it for Retained knights. Heavy weapons, mounted on tracks. There is also an anti-gravity version. But I reserve it for Retained knights. I varied the settings for the photos. Even if the bases are not very connected.
That's it for this time.
